The Book of Gremlins

The Book of Gremlins
£4.99

Published in 1980 by J. M. Dent. Small (approx. 2cm closed tear to top of wrapper. Inscribed by previous owner.(Hard to see!) Most people at some time in their life have been the target of Gremlins, but few have seen a Gremlin in the flesh. For this very reason, much is known about Gremlin activity, but very little about the creatures themselves. Now, all this has changed, for this amazing book by two fearless gremlinologists details the results of years of chaotic research into the true nature of Gremlins. The publication of this book will revolutionize gremlinology the study of Gremlins. In its way, it is more important than even Charles Darwin's 'Origin of Species', for he published his studies on the visible world. Ridley and Neary are here documenting the world of Gremlins who, under normal circumstances, remain invisible to the human eye. Through an amazing feat of scientific engineering, this heroic pair developed and built the gremelscope which has enabled them not only to observe the creatures, but also to communicate with them. The Gremlins themselves were so astounded that they presented them with the Gremel Prize for Literature. There is little doubt that this major work will radically change traditional mythological research. Bryan Neary the arty one has captured the unbelievable world of the Gremlin in his detailed and accurate paintings in glorious Gremlincolour, which adorn every page of the book. Bryan Neary, who is a Fellow of the Royal Gremlin Academy, has had his paintings hung in many parts of the world from trees, lamp-posts, flag-poles etc. In Paris, his work can be seen hanging in the lou. An artist of great vision, mostly unaided (he gave up painting by numbers three years ago), his work is extremely colourful and attractive as well as being scientifically accurate. Michael Ridley, a Doctor of Gremlinology, and Hon. Fellow of the Gremlin Institute of Humanology exposes the true nature of Gremlins, then shows that they exist and have existed in all parts of the world almost from the beginning of time. Research took him and his colleague, to the far-flung corners of the globe. Dr. Ridley, who also holds a multi-degree (one above third degree) in archaeogremology, treats us to a multi-volume history of Gremlins reduced to a few pages. He also outlines Gremlin philosophy and their social behaviour. Perhaps the most exciting discovery of this intrepid pair was the seat of Gremlin government which is illustrated in all its horrific detail. This is no piece of pure theoretical science, however, for it has its application. In a major section of the book, a large number of Gremlins of all occupations are documented, so that the reader will be able to identify the culprit responsible for his or her misery or misfortune, and perhaps take evasive measures.

Social Trust and the Management of Risk

Social Trust and the Management of Risk
£9.99

This volume of essays contributes to the understanding of the fundamental role of trust in building community and the management of risk. It examines work on trust and risk in a range of social and behavioural studies and the implications. Social trust is a crucial issue to many aspects of modern society. Policy makers continually aspire to winning it and corporations frequently run the risk of losing it. The 'trust deficit' raises vital questions and problems to which until recently there have been few answers or solutions. Experts from both sides of the Atlantic explore the importance for trust of various influences, from individual perceptions to organizational systems, and consider the conditions involved in building or undermining trust. Several authors examine practical hazard management issues, including medical vaccination programmes and popular participation in pollution control and waste management as strategies for enhancing social trust. This book provides insightful analysis for researchers and students of environmental and social sciences and is essential reading for those engaged in risk management in both the public and private sectors.
