The other day, Jolika, my 11 year old niece visited our house. I had those long sweet chit chats with the little one which I enjoy every time. I was just away for a few minutes when she was playing with our cat. And, Benny, our cat didn’t prove to be friendly this time. Benny had clawed my niece’s new skirt and she was so teary. I just hate when that happens with my sweet little Jolika. Nevertheless, it was time to cheer her up and that could only be done by stitching her skirt. So I said, “Wipe your tears baby because we are gonna stitch up your skirt pretty quick.”

Luckily, I had a Brother sewing machine (check out the good sewing machine reviews for it). My mom always used to say that this little machine was one of the best sewing machines for kids. Well, the pink color on it did look sweet and although my baby feared needles and sharp things as most kids do, she was not intimidated by this piece. I showed her how to load the thread and wind bobbin slot. She could do it just on her first trial. I must say that it was really easy for her. Kids always find it easy to handle simple things and for a sewing machine to be appealing to a small child, it must be easy to thread. That’s the most important part. Apart from that, a good sewing machine for kids should have just the necessary and basic functions. Reverse stitch and a simple foot pedal could be optional features that makes it easier for your child to do her stuff.
It was hardly 20 minutes and Jolika had actually stitched her skirt herself with very little instructions from me. I was more than successful in cheering her up and I guess she felt pretty proud to have accomplished a stitch for the first time and that too by herself. When her mother came back to take her, she was just continuously talking about how she had stitched the skirt herself. It was a pretty good day for both of us. And obviously, thanks to the best sewing machine for kids that helped me cheer Jolika.
